Tutorial for the Natzweiler Prisoner Database

Posted on by

The Natzweiler Prisoner Database was created through two contracts for work awarded to Mr. André Heck and together with all the memorial sites on both the German and French sides as well as the historian Dr. Robert Steegmann.

The prisoner lists of Dr. Steegmann and from the memorial sites were merged and standardized, categories were created and transferred to a database. This meant an immense amount of work, since each list that was kept was structured differently, partly as a Word document, partly as Excel files and partly as handwritten notes.

On February 15, 2020, the first tutorial on the Natzweiler Prisoner Database for the memorials at the VGKN took place. In this first version of the database based on SQL, the volunteers learned how to use the database.

At a later date, a frontend will be set up for the public, which will be accessible via the website Natzweiler.eu.
